hiking

Today two of my co-teachers and I took a ridiculously long hike down the San Luis valley and then back up the goat trail/horse trail. Lets just say it was a steep down and a steep up. The down was dry and sunny and we were doing it so we could go and visit the families of our students. I can't even begin to describe how beautiful it was and how great it was to be able to go to homes with teachers who are fluent (or mostly fluent). Now I'm thoroughly exhausted and we're making pizza and watching planet earth. I'm happy to be here..

Is this strenuous hike what your students do every day to come to school?

There are three boys all 7th and up who do the very strenuous hike up every morning. The adults in the family try to send one of them up with them in the morning and often pick them up after school, but not always. It's muddy and rocky in separate parts and the views are amazing when it's not clouded in. the oldest was timing himself last year and the fastest he ever made it to school was 35 minutes and i bet he was practically running the entire way. the other students down in the valley get a ride in a van, but it costs a pretty penny.
